Meiji Resotoration 3 Feb 1867 A group of sumarais, unsatisfied with the current restrictions on the Japanese development and wishing to increase their own power over national leadership, led the Meiji Restoration. During the Restoration, Japan industrialized massively and the power was back in the hands of the emperor. As Japan became industrialized over just a few decades, Japan adopted Western government, education, and military technologies, which were more advanced than those of Korea.

Taewongun's Resistance to Industrialization (Cont.) 13 Dec 1863 Taewongun's resistance to Western influences in Korea was significant, therefore because it prevented Korea from industrializing earlier, and, thus not having the adequate technologies to defend against the Japanese upon their invasion.
Tonghak rebellion 1 Jan 1894 Tonghak rebellion happened during the year of 1894. The first rebellion was in 1st of January 1984. Tonghak was set up as a combination of Confucian, Buddhist, Daoist, Shaministic ideas in opposition to weaken western learning (Catholic). It resulted in King Kojong calling aid from Quing dynasty and also the Sino Japanses War. The significance of Tonkhak rebellion was that the Tonghak rebellion forced king kojong to turn to Quing China for help, thus provoking the Japanese and stimulating the

Sino Japanese War 1 Aug 1894 Sino Japanese War started in Aug 1, 1894 and lasted till Apr 17 1895. The cause of first Sino Japanese War was the Tonkhak Rebeliion in 1894. Also, the rise of Japanese military power also gave a rise to the Sino Japanese war as well as the revolt against the Korean government. The effect of Sino Japanese war was ended with a peace treaty called the Treaty of Shimonoseki. It was significant because it questioned of who controlled Korean peninsula, and also it was the turning point for Japan.
Treaty of Shimonoseki 30 Mar 1895 The treaty of Shimonoseki was a peace treaty to end the Sino Japanese War (1894-1895). It influenced Japan to expand to other regions because they had pride in their military power as Japan was accepted as victor from fighting. This event was significant because China recognized full and complete independence and autonomy of Korea.
